Tutorial #18: Importing and Exporting a Custom Word List

If you are upgrading from a non-medical version of Dragon or if you need to create a new profile you may want to export your list of custom words to save them. This video shows you how.

Importing and Exporting a Custom Word List

If you are upgrading from a non-medical version of Dragon or are simply creating a new profile, you may want to keep your list of custom words you have added to your dictionary. You must first export your vocabulary from your current profile, and then import it into your new profile. This guide will teach you how.

Exporting Vocabularies 

  1. Launch Dragon Medical Practice Edition 2, if it isn't already open, by double clicking the desktop icon, clicking the icon on the taskbar if present, or by simply opening the start menu in windows and typing in "Dragon Medical Practice Edition," and then pressing enter

  2. Once Dragon opens, either select a profile to load or, if you have only one profile, wait for Dragon to load your profile

  3. Once dragon has fully loaded, click on "Vocabulary" on the Dragon Bar

  4. Click on "Export custom word and phrase list"

  5. Browse to the location that you want to save your exported vocabulary, name it, and then click "Save"

Importing Vocabularies 

  1. Now that we have exported our vocabulary from our old profile, we need to import it into our new one

  2. Launch Dragon Medical Practice Edition 2, if it isn't already open, by double clicking the desktop icon, clicking the icon on the taskbar if present, or by simply opening the start menu in windows and typing in "Dragon Medical Practice Edition," and then pressing enter

  3. Once Dragon opens, either select a profile to load or, if you have only one profile, wait for Dragon to load your profile

  4. Once dragon has fully loaded, click on "Vocabulary" on the Dragon Bar

  5. Click on "Manage Vocabularies..."

  6. Click on "Import list of words or phrases" on the drop-down menu

  7. Click “Next”

  8. Click “Add File…” and browse to the location you saved your list

  9. Click “Next” to complete the process
